APPOINTS BOARD MEMBERS -- Tony Kobrinetz and Don Turner
"For 27 years Mr. Kobrinetz has been a leader in advanced design and manufacturing for a company on technology's forefront, while Mr. Turner represents labor's leading voice in Chicago," said Giannisis. "Their participation on the CMC board will further our work with the area's small- and mid-sized manufacturers." Currently, Kobrinetz is vice president and director of operations for ACES, a group focused on automotive-grade electronics, telematics, communications and software solutions. Prior to his current position, he led Motorola's Mobile Internet Exchange / Personal Area Network Division which enables access to the Internet via voice and data devices. Since joining Motorola in 1974, Kobrinetz has been closely involved with technical development in areas such as wireless local-area-networks (LAN) and cellular infrastructure equipment. In addition to his manufacturing expertise, Kobrinetz has extensive experience in technology design management, administration and technical sales. He is also the recipient of seven patent awards and the Motorola CEO Corporate Quality Award. Kobrinetz received his bachelor's degree in communications theory with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his master's of business administration degree with a specialization in finance from Loyola University Chicago. Turner represents more than 300 unions and 500,000 workers in his leadership role at the Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL). He joined the CFL in 1988 as assistant to the president and project coordinator. Prior to his election as president, Turner served as CFL secretary-treasurer. Turner began his career as a high-school business teacher. In 1968 he was elected delegate of the Chicago Teacher's Union (CTU), eventually leading to more union leadership posts -- including administrative director and vice president of both the CTU and the Illinois Federation of Teachers. Turner is a cochair of the Chicagoland Labor Management Committee and a board member of Metropolis 2020, Global Chicago, the Chicago Workforce Board, the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau and the Public Building Commission. He is a former member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Advisory Board, the Illinois Economic Development Board and the Governor's Commission on Educational Funding.
